Consider seasonality, like what clothing you’ll need for a baby that’s born in winter versus summer. Think about upcoming vacations or family traditions, like baby’s first trip to the beach. And of course, load up on the baby registry must haves, like lots of diapers and wipes. No matter what, your little one will be spending a lot of time eating, sleeping, and just being downright adorable—and you’ll be ready.

Registry Checklist

Baby gear

• Infant or convertible car seat
• Stroller
• Baby carrier
• Baby swing or bouncer
• Playard with bassinet
• High chair

Baby clothes

• 4-8 onesies
• 10 leggings or elastic-waist trousers
• 10 pairs of footed pajamas
• 1-3 sweaters or jackets
• 1-3 rompers or other dress-up outfits
• 4-7 socks or booties (shoes are unnecessary until baby walks)
• 1-3 hats (broad-brimmed for a summer baby, soft cap that covers ears for a winter baby)
• No-scratch mittens

Nursery items

• Crib, cradle, or bassinet
• Firm, flat mattress that fit snugly in crib (less than two fingers should fit between mattress and crib)
• Rocking chair or nursery glider

• Baby monitor
• A cool mist humidifier (warm mist can breed bacteria in the humidifier)

Baby bedding

• 2-4 fitted crib sheets
• 4-6 soft, light receiving blankets
• 4 Velcro swaddles

Diapering must-haves

• Changing table or cushioned changing pad for low dresser or bureau, with safety strap or railing
• Diaper pail and liners

• 2-3 large boxes of disposable newborn-size diapers

• 2-4 soft towels or hooded baby towels
