Look for a full featured highchair to fit your lifestyle
Families come together at the dinner table. The meals and conversations that we share bring us closer to one another. In fact, there are studies showing that when preschoolers listen to and take part in mealtime conversations, they tend to have better verbal skills and may turn out to be better readers and writers (1999 Harvard University Study).
The first thing to look for is a full featured highchair. Depending on your needs, you may want one that folds easily and can be stored when not in use. Or you can select a highchair that pulls up to your family’s table so your baby can join at mealtime right from the start.
So...what else should I look for?
CHILD FIT
- It is also important to choose a chair that fits your child. A comfortable, yet firm, seat pad is an obvious necessity, but recline and height adjustability are even more important.
- Since the littlest babies don't have the muscle development to sit upright, a reclined position offers support and makes feeding easier. As your baby grows stronger, you will gradually adjust the level of recline until finally your baby is sitting upright. A one-hand recline adjustment makes it easy for you to adjust the chair to fit your baby.
- Adjusting the height of the highchair allows more intimate and comfortable face-to-face feeding, and makes it easy for you to fit the highchair to your family’s table. If ease of use is important to you, look for a product offering a one-hand height adjustment.
- And don’t forget to look for a highchair with an adjustable tray that slides smoothly with one hand. Pushing the tray right up to your child minimizes the amount of food that can fall into your baby’s lap.
EASY TO CLEAN
- It’s a fact: kids are messy. Because on some days more food will get on the highchair than into your baby, you’ll want a highchair with a wipeable seat pad. The pad should wrap completely around the seat so there are no crevices where food can hide.
- Also look for a smooth tray, so food and grime wipe away easily and don’t get stuck in cracks.
- Choose a highchair that has a removable tray insert. This lets you remove the mess in front of your baby and leave your baby in the highchair while you clean up.
EASE OF USE
- Time is important for new moms. That's why Graco's new Contempo™ highchair requires no assembly! Just pull out of the box and you are ready to go.
- Conveniences such as castors or wheels for mobility, fold for storage make life much easier for you and your baby.
- And don’t forget – your baby’s highchair is a piece of furniture. With so many different fashions to choose from, it should be easy for you to find a highchair that matches you and your baby’s style.
Anything else?
If you're on the go, you may also want to look into foldable, portable table chairs. Lighter than regular highchairs, these chairs are perfect for trips or visits. Since they're affordable, if you have a place you visit often (like grandma's), you may even want to buy an extra one and leave it there.
